There's something wrong if a "clutch-cable adjustment" isn't dealing with the problem. You'd be wise to remove the push-rod assembly from the clutch and check ALL the parts for wear.
You haven't mentioned this but out of curiosity have you recently had the clutch basket/plates apart?

YAHOO !!! THE TRIP IS BACK ON, not sure what I have done but it works now, I drained 300ml oil from engine to get to correct level, readjusted everything, cable, arm etc, started bike put into first with brake on and it was fine no fighting the brakes! Went for a 10 mile run all working. I will have another go at getting handlebar lever to bite early tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Thank you .
