Nope, headers have to come off before the pan does. No easy way around it, unfortunately.

Thanks Lucien. This is not going to be fun.

Any tips on how to go about it? Do I try to take it apart at the collector or do I remove the pipes from the head. It was a real bitch putting it all together. Took me weeks of fiddling to get rid of the leaks at the collector. Drive tap. Drive tap.

Hm.... If I remember how I did it, it may be worth dropping the whole thing. Start with getting the mufflers out of the way, then take the headers/collector off as a unit. You MAY be able to leave the mufflers in place and just take the headers/collectors off, but I don't know if you'll run into clearance issues. It may quickly become more trouble than it's worth.

As far as getting it back together, I always bolt everything up really loose so I know I can get everything started, then work from the headers, back- headers to block, collector mounts, muffler mounts. All the pinch clamps come last. Did you put in new muffler/collector gaskets when you assembled it last time?

Also, when you take the pan off, prepare for an absolute mess. It doesn't matter how well you drain the oil, a bunch will be left in the sump. Plan your pan removal location accordingly. ;)

Well at least I only have one muffler. I have the DG 6-1. The collector starts just forward of the oil pan. I'm just not sure how to get the pipes out of the collector. They are rammed in pretty tight.
