My cam chain idler sprocket is a wheel.

Did you take a look at that tensioner? That is NOT a stock tensioner, but it is a common replacement. Not sure of the exact model, but I'm fairly certain it's the one that recommends shaving off something like 10mm from the spring before use (again, do NOT quote me on this). It would probably not be a bad idea to check cam chain stretch- mostly because you have no clue how long this engine has ran with the conditions that was able to turn a gear into a wheel.

You've got it apart. May as well put it back together right, you know?

Believe it or not, sometimes the nylon sprocket is completely worn off and the cam chain is running on the metal needle bearing shell.

The original nylon sprocket material was prone to premature wear. This was corrected in later manufactured sprockets by using a much tougher nylon material.

I too purchased a Liska sprocket, but have not installed it. My KZ1300 is sleeping in the garage until I have time to perform all updates and improvements. This includes the brass floats from scotch. Thanks scotch!
