Further to Pete F's posting about coil upgrades, Ive been looking at upgrading my coils before I get the Zed 13 back together for Spring: was looking at some 3ohm Dyna coils (and ditching the ballast resisters), I've heard second-hand postive comments, but was not sure if they are worth the mucho denaro "price tag", compared to other standard coil sets ?

If anyone has fitted a set to a Z13, be interested to hear any feed back re performance .
Cheers Tim

I was thinking about using these if and when I replace my coils, I put in the accel coils a while ago, just a bit too big and bulky for my liking although they do work well, wonder how much these guys are asking for the coil set (and I suppose postage to Australia would kill me)

Had Dynas on my 13 for a good 10 years or so now, I do remember they made a real improvement on running. There is room to attach them to the cam cover if you wanted to, that's where I've got mine. I see Dyna also produce other coils that are much smaller now, maybe they're worth a look as they'd be a lot easier to locate in tight spaces?

Dynas are very good coils it cannot be denied.

The issue as ever is the cost.

Fitting any higher output coils on any KZ or Z1300 makes a massive improvement as the originals with the Ballast are incredibly weak, so anything is better than them.

I had a Z1300A2 a few years ago and did the AW82 conversion. This made starting and general running much, much better.
I then managed to get a new set of Dynas cheap on Ebay and fitted them instead.
Being very honest...........I could not feel any benefit over the AW82's so sold the Dynas on at a profit.
The Dynas are also a bit of a bother to fit onto the bike.

I can tell you that Phil has an excellent guide somewhere (ask him nicely) to fitting the Dyna coils as he did to his own Z1300, as they are not anything like a direct fit like the AW82's are.

Pete F

I chose the Dynas to better match the impedance. They are bigger and will not fit in the stock location. I fitted one where the top coil fits under the tank. The other two I planted in the tool tray. They're a bit of a nuisance when trying to access the battery or the air filter but I can remove the valve cover without having to dismount the coils.
