Hi Holger,
I have not came across this model of 1300 before (KZ1300A1 Gran Touring) ?
Which countries was it sold into ?
Is it a similar to the B1 which was full touring spec ?
Interested to know.
This perhaps ?????

Hi Pete
I thought I knew all the models of the KZ/Z1300 and came across that modell recently, with just a few pics. It has been offered exclusively iby Kawasaki n the US as Gran Touring (no typo, the "d" is indeed missing) and what you have found is the perfect example. It is the predecessor of the B1. It was an A1 with the fairing, the back and side-trunks from Craig Vetter.
I have no information how many of these have been built.
Thanks for locating it, first fotos I have seen in the web (and of good quality, too).
regards,
Holger

Holger,
Thinking back on this, I do recall having an email conversation many years ago with an owner from the USA who had a model very similar or the same as the one in the link I sent.
I seem to recal that Kawasaki USA offered a "Touring" option with the KZ1300 A1 which they comissioned with Vetter, the fairing and luggage manufacturer.
This was something you had to order as an option with a new bike, as the touring kit was supplied via Kawasaki colour matched but actually fitted to the bike at the supplying dealership. So it was not actually manufactured as a whole bike in a Kawasaki factory. This may also explain why it was not allocated special chassis numbers as a "Gran Tourer" as it was actually just an A1 with a kit fitted ?
I cannot substanciate this, but it has stayed in my mind.
Perhaps some other USA Owners on the site maybe able to throw some more light on this, or perhaps worth contacting Vetter for more info ?

I had one like this years ago..with a butt ugly two up touring seat most guys had put on at the dealership (still have that ugly seat in perfect shape if anyone's interested) .they didnt make many and most guys took all the vetter stuff off anf turned it back into a standard so probably only a handful even exist today They werent the BEST looking tourer especially from the front.
