The only thing that would make it perfect to me would be if they put the original Z1 exhaust pipes on it. So many nice rides available if I only had a vault full of cash.

Yea, the exhaust system on any bike adds or subtracts , maybe disproportionately due to it's size, from the overall appearance.
And most japanese oem's are struggling to get it right, and this bike is no different. The new Bonneviile T120 exhaust looks very close to the 1969 version of the same bike, as does the new Norton. So it can be done.

I agree. I don't understand this recent trend to put very short and very thick pipes on motorcycles. To me it looks ugly.

There is a fair bit of interest in the new Z900RS in the UK, most Kwak owners I speak to are keen to view it (me included - recently saw pics from Japan of a candy green one - looked very nice), but were hoping to see the "supercharged" :woohoo: version that was also rumoured to be released.

Agree on the pipes: when you've got something as iconic as the original 4 into 4 pipes, you think KHI would have tried to replicate it: I guess the reality is price driven by the "bean counters" and they are using an existing system of the current Z900 / Z1000 range to keep the price down ?.

For me I'm not sure, it reminds me too much of the very first retro from the big 4, the Kawasaki Zephyr from the 90s. Still lovely looking & I'm sure it's a very competent bike though.
