Frame and engine numbers. was created by charlie9670
I just stumbled across a list of starting numbers for each model so checked against mine. The A5 started with Frame number 015901 and mine is 015916 , Engine number started at 016401 and mine is 016421. Obviously makes no difference to anything but I presume mine is one of the first put together on the first day which would likely make it the oldest A5 around. Is there a list of how many of each model were pruduced?

To the best of my research that information is still not known. We have a few estimates of total production for all years of the 1300 and that is it. If you have starting and ending number for all years please post that information.
In order to determine statistics like this we should start a serial number database. This is how the classic car groups figure this tuff out. Then we can determine production per year from looking at the earliest and latest serial number per year. There are something like 500 members on this forum which would be about 2% of all 1300 produced, we can make some good estimates from that sample size.
A simple table of year, model, engine serial, frame serial, location of manufacture (USA or Japan) and current location can tell us a lot.

From the numbers listed it seems to me to look like
A1 6100
A2 5300
A3 2600
A4 1800
A5 no final number maybe 1200
Injection models maybe 3000 all in ,total 20,000.
Interesting numbers showing more sold in the first 2yrs than in the rest put together even including Voyagers

Still missing some info, however it may help solve one problem. There was simultaneous production starting in 1981 in both the US and Japan. We do know that a vin starting with JKAKZ = made in USA and KZT = Made in Japan. My 81 was made in Japan, despite some "information" that claims production was completely moved to the US. If I use motorcyclespecs.co.za info as well I can compile the following.
This is all that's available....
79 A1 Frame = KZT30A-000101 Engine = E00101, 6100 fames numbers, 5700 engines so we assume no more than 5700 motorcycles produced
80 A2 Frame = KZT30A-006201 Engine = E05801, no more than 5300 frames produced but 6600 engines
80 B2 Frame = KZT30B-000101 Engine= ??? if we assume the extra engines were all used for B2's then the can be no more than 1300 B2's
81 A3 US made Frame= JKAKZAA15BA-011501 Same stating number as Japanese sequence???
81 A3 Japanese made Frame = KZT30A-011501 Engine= E12401 total US and Jap. production, no more than 2400 produced
82 A4 Frame = KZT30A-014101 Engine = E14801 More frames than engines, but no more than 1600 produced (US production ???)
83 A5 Frame = KZT30A-015901 Engine = E16401 Serial changed in 84, total production unknown (we could assume similar 1982, 1600)
84-85 ZG Frame = ZGT30A-000001 no more than 2800 made
86-89 ZG Frame = ZGtT30A-002801 No Idea how many were made, probably very few.
So the total for all years is something in the neighborhood of 25,000, this number is quoted form several sources.
We don't know hoe may were made in the US vs Japan or how many went to US, VS Europe, VS Australia and so forth...
