Carb floats
10 years 4 months ago
Anyone have a (1) float-bowl and a (1) old (non-floating) float? I'm considering making a few sets of brass floats if there's any interest. I need the bowl for the spare throttle-body I already have so I can set the needle-tang to get a basic float-level. I need 1 old float to get some critical measurements for the pivot and bendable needle-tang. I cut this piece off my old floats and used them on my brass ones so no longer can measure this per a stock float.
I've been running on my own homemade brass floats for ten years without any issues or concern. (Did a tutorial a while back) Taking my carbs apart to facilitate this is not an option.

Haven't figure-out a price yet as I am trying to make a decision on the pivot-arm and pin. The easiest and quickest option giving consistent results is to re-use the pivot-arm and pin from existing sets, as I did with mine. The concern however is that this will all but ruin the OEM float. Hand making a new pivot-arm with the bendable needle-tang is not an option. This is a part that must be stamped and formed with consistent accuracy which is impractical without tooling and dies.
The float itself is relatively easy to make as I have made enough to be comfortable with the work required.
So the BIG question is: Are you comfortable having your existing floats cannibalized for the pivot-arm ?????. The existing pin can be re-used as is and would be required.

I was thinking about building some for mine pretty soon because mine are likely fuel soaked as well and i'd kinda just like to take on the task of building them. Buttt... what is your estimated price for these just out of curiosity?
