Pod Filters revisited

There is a fellow on Facebook selling custom made billet pod filters for the 1300. $360 AUS per set. A Douglas Bateson from Australia. I'm not sure if he is a member here but I am guessing not because I haven't seen him selling them here. Here is a link to those here who use FB.

I have concerns about the filter design at higher speeds. Having had issues with pod filters on other bikes in the past, I'd hate to pay that money to find out they don't work well at highway speeds or in a crosswind.

On the flip side, I'd LOVE to ditch the airbox.

Anyone want to weigh in?

Yes, I'll "weigh in", NOPE, no thanks for those things, they are just not worth the aggravation and antics needed to get the carbs only a percentage closer to the way they worked best with the stock air filter box on the engine. Besides, that is one heck of a lot of money that could be used a lot more constructively in other places.

For me, and a stock set of carbs, stock air box, ducting, but, K&N filter in place of the stock filter, works best. One FYI on K&N stuff, their filter cleaner is nothing more than off the shelf Formula 409 cleaner. I use the 409, then, wash it off with warm water, dry, re-oil with a very light oil, every 20K miles. Some, not all carb sets might need to be re-jetted, if so, hardware store .020 shim under needle, re-jet mains as needed, done, works well.

I suspected as much. More trouble than they are worth at that price. I'd still love the ditch the airbox and its annoying rubbers. I have to take my carbs apart. Again.

Thanks!

I just got an email from another big six fan who is doing a production run of pod filters. He says he has tested them up to 90 mph and they work well. Made like the K&N type so they can be cleaned.

$210 USD per set plus shipping.

I seem to remember reading a thread about a limited run of pod filters a few years back and people were wishing they would be done again. Anyone remember this? Wonder if they are the same.

Nice, I'm not in the market right now as I built my own pod filter mod but if I don't get on with it then I would be interested
