base gasket oil leak was created by preecy
hello, can anybody help I have developed an oil leak at the lower left hand corner of the barrels, it does not leak whilst i am riding but only when its standing [side stand] in my garage, about a table spoon full each time I park. I don't know how serious this is to the engine and would like to have it repaired but no Kawasaki shop will touch it? I have very little mechanic skill as I work in swimming pool construction I live near rugby warks can anyone help ? apologies for being a novice with these fantastic bikes. preecy

If you are absolutely sure the oil leak is from the crankcase/ barrels gasket , then you indeed have quite a job on your hands. Make sure the oil is not trickling dwown from the valve cover gasket as engine oil does pool on the left side of the camshafts when sitting on the side stand.
To fix the crankcase gasket requires stripping the engine down to that point and to pay someone to do that , you may not have that kind of value in the bike.
If it is only a small oil leak you may just want to put up with it until, when and if you do an engine rebuild sometime in the future.
Most guys who buy these bikes accept that repairs are part of ownership and take on the job themselves.

Hi
Before paying someone £500 I would take the camshaft cover off and re-torque all the cylinder studs.

I wonder if someone forgot to install 1 or more of the 4 'O' rings that are installed with the base gasket to seal the oil passage ways?
