Happy New Year I hope..

Prepping the Kz for a test ride. Thought a compression test and Carb sycn test might be in order.

I have a 4-cylinder CarbTune, can't see all six vacuum ports at once. Here's one and two.

Pretty darn close. Remember the Kz has trip-deuce carbs.

Next up 3 and 4.

Hmmm. Not as close. Clueless as to if this is within specs or Oh My God..

The last two, 5 and 6.

High shy of 25, low at 22.8? Thought I'd post this to the peeps on KZ1300.com to see what the experts think.
For now, leaving it as-is.

Compression. Number one is an over-acheiver. Retested 1 and 2 to ensure my numbers were repeatable.

Fairing back on, all electrics work! Hi/Lo beam, emergency flashers, all of it is good!

Test ride tomorrow, if it's not too foggy or cold..

Also... ran the ColurTune in all 6 holes and adjusted idle mixture. It helped! Smoother idle, crisper response. But the needles, with exception of #5 cylinder, need be dropped.. Too rich.

And yes, it's cold and I'm outside working in the dark.

Good to see a proper Mercury manometer in use. I made one over 40 years ago for my z1000. With Mercury from a Kent KU flow recorder(for you instrument guys ) l let a friend borrow it.... never got it back.

If I recall correctly, the spec is 2 cm hg so you are not far away.....unless you are like me...they must be the same.

What are your valve clearances like??

Actually, the Carbtune Pro 4 uses metal rods not Hg. Safer, no chance of engine inhalation, LOL. BTW, my nickname at the Nuke plant is 'Captain Mercury' after I 'skyed' a Wallce and Tiernan FA187 manometer....

Valve clearances should be great, this fresh motor has less than 500 miles on it.

??? If one pair of carbs has a hi and lo reading, which value should be used to sync to the remaining two pairs? Hi value or low value ???

The fact is, as you only have 3 adjusters across the 3 twin choke carbs, you cannot adjust each cylinder as an individual, you can only adjust 1 pair at a time.

1&2
3&4
5&6

I too have a set of the Carbtune Pro4 with the metal rod design and find them to be very easy to use and accurate.

Funny , we had a captain Mercury at BP Hull in the late 70s. He did something similar... 80 psi on a 0 to 20 psi Mercury manometer. Happy Days.... wasn't you by chance??.. lol.
WRT which value to use from a carb with dissimilar values.... take the mid of the two.
