Nothing crazy just remove some of the mass and see how I like it. You may see all the luggage and fairing bits up for sale one day.

Nnnnooooooooooooooooo! Don't do it! Sell it to me and go get one of the KZ's, or, if you are partial to injection, find a ZG model! You won't save more than about 80lbs getting rid of the bags/trunk and going to a smaller fairing. That's just not worth it for the loss of touring capabilities as well as preserving the dignity of the old girl!

Although all of this injector talk should be in the tech section, I just wanted to be sure I warned you about two of the hidden issues with the ZN1300's injectors system.

Since these bikes are so old now, the rubber parts are not flexible anymore, so this creates two problems. First, the rubber connectors that the injector bodies slip into now have less tolerance for misalignment of the injector bodies to the intake manifold runners. Even when they were new there is an alignment jig to get them perfectly set. Once set, the screws that join each injector body to the two "L"-shaped tie-bars are tightened and should never be taken loose without the availability of the jig. If they become misaligned, there is almost sure to be an air leak because the rubber coupling cannot take up that misalignment anymore. I have found it unnecessary to take all of the bodies loose anyway, so to clean up the whole system, just strip everything else off of them to clean the whole works in carb cleaner, or whatever you use.

The second issue is that of the injectors themselves. They have short, rubber hoses crimped to the injector itself, and they are now hard as rocks, too! Some of them will not even come off the fuel "rail" without cracking. Unless you can fabricate up a crimping tool and make up your own crimp rings to replace these little hoses, DON'T remove the injectors from the fuel "rail". Just take all six injectors loose from the bodies and remove them together, along with the fuel "rail".

Most of the rubber couplers found on eBay are old, used ones, too, and most have small cracks around their edges, so be careful if ordering any of them and trying to use them. Air leaks wreak havoc in trying to get these engines to run smooth!

Well I'm a bit far away from the ability to tour and in all honesty I got it to try something new, ie the inline six. The cbx is a bit out of my price range as are the benelli bikes and the kawi 1300 always intrigued me. Anyways I had planned on leaving it as original as possible and restore what was needed to be a good ridder even though it wasn't completely my style. This bike is dang close to weighing as much as any TWO bikes I have ever owned though. I found a kz a while ago but it was "restored" and over 4000 I want to say. Almost ever single other bike I found was a Zn and I much rather fiddle with the dfi over those 3x2 carbs. As for the zg it was my understanding they were never sold here? If someone wants a full tourer in trade for their naked I'm willing to switch them out.
Anyways I have been looking into replacing the hoses that fed the injectors and never really found out how they were connected so I'm very glad you shared that. Very informative
