How many turns out should the pilot air screws be on a 79 a1 cheers

There is no fixed point that is good enough for normal running.

Start at 3 to 3.5 turns out and then use Gunsons Colour Tune to adjust to correct mixture. Repeat this across all 6 cylinders as many times as necessary to get them all dialled in.

I would also balance carbs in between each round of colour tune adjustments too.
