het all
I have the standard sump and despite searching cannot find 6 litre one anywhere. question is motor runs well no knocking and planning to change oil regularly etc. providing I keep the level correct is there any reason to believe the crank will have problems? read quite a few comments on sites stating it will fail at 50,000 miles despite oil changes etc

any ideas?
Tad

I changed mine but only because I got a deep sump through this site at the right price.

Someone else on here explained that, even if you keep the oil at the full mark, the sump will run dry under hard acceleration because the oil gets thrown to the back of the sump and the pick-up runs dry.

I had an oil pressure gauge on mine for a couple of years and never noticed a drop in pressure - but then again, if I was giving it a handful I probably wouldn't have time to check the gauge.

If you do find a deep sump remember you need a longer pick-up too.

I have had two 1979 model years with the smaller sump and have never had an issue with oil starvation.

Like you say as long as you monitor the oil level and change it often, you should be fine.

If you have the motor out of the frame, or plan to do so, I think you should find a deep sump and change it. During heavy maintenance, while the engine is out of the frame.

Most early oil starvation events were on engines that had high oil consumption with owners not taking the time to look at the sight glass. This is why KHI went to the deep sump with the oil level monitoring system.

These deep sump pans come available from time to time, one just has to be patient to find the right one at the right price.

Regards.

Re:Deep sump for the 13.There have been a few on ebay in the past, but are few and far between.Have a mate here in Adelaide(he makes all my custom bits)who can make a spacer for the shallow sump, but no idea as to what it would cost.Happy hunting. Kezz.

Just a word of caution about the sump spacers - make sure your exhaust system will still fit with the spacer installed

Fitting a spacer sounds like a good idea, any thoughts on how much it would cost?
