hi all
well I have had what seems to be common starting issues on my z1300. the bike once started runs great and no issues whatsoever. leave it one day and it still starts no issue. leave it any more than 3 days and no way will it start. the only way to get it going is a tiny amount of easy start in the air box and it starts no problem

I have followed advice on many things including
replaced the coils and leads AW82 coils. new leads, new plugs , new air filter
timing spot on
fuel clean and flowing fine

it just doesn't make sense really as if its carbs why start after 1 day but not 3????

very frustrating but seems as I search the web its a common topic but no definitive answer

does anyone know of another common thing to do I haven't done which will make a difference

cheers all

Tad:

Do you still have your electric fuel shutoff valve installed?

If so, it does not start to flow fuel until you pull in the clutch. After the clutch switch makes contact, power is applied to the fuel valve. It can take a few seconds or up to a minute to fully fill the float bowls.

After three days your bowls are probably empty, thereby making it hard to start.

Even without the valve, fuel bowls can evaporate, depending on how you shut the fuel flow off, when parking the bike. Do you run it partially dry when parking it for the day?

Regards.

I would agree with Toddh -the fuel evaporates out of the carbs after several days.
I have the vacuum fuel tap fitted and if left in the run position, the engine will not start- turn the tap to prime , I hear the fuel running into the float bowls and it starts first crank on the starter

Hi Beertad

and make sure you have the mother of all batteries installed, maintained and full to the top.

That will defintely add a bit to the total picture.

Had problems to start for years (once the whole crowd applauded coz the bike DID start) ...

Starting was always the prime bugbear with mine, right from new. As soon as the starting was a bit hard it was in with a new set of plugs or new battery if it was a bit old.
The electrics were a big drawback with the Z13s. I really would have expected Kawasaki to do better but we had to live with them for quite a while till better parts came on the market

thanks Todd
I have a vacuum tap and its working fine, but the idea of priming first is a good one so will try that

I have contacts at Yuasa batteries too so will see if I can get a deal

is there any radical swap of the carbs like a Webber conversion etc. has anyone done anything

I wonder how Alan millyard gets on with his v12
