Hello Kwit and welcome to the forum.

Based on your description, a couple of items come to mind.

1: I would take the spark plugs out and rotate the engine over by hand to make sure there is no binding occurring, or drag. (Consult the shop manual on how to do this)

2: Take a volt meter to the starter contactor (Low voltage side/ small wires) and make sure you are getting all 12 volts to the starter. This will test the starting circuit from your new battery, main harness, starter button, down to the contactor. Make sure the large conductor from the starter contactor to the starter is tight and not corroded.

3: The starter is fairly easy to remove, again consult the shop manual. Take the starter to a local auto electrical shop for a starter draw test. If it draws too many amps, they can refurbish the starter for you for a relatively low cost. (New bushings, and cleaning up the armature.) Our starters are fairly trouble free and rarely fail.

It's possible you could have a bad starter but I would suspect that last.

Hope this helps, keep us posted.

Todd.

I would be looking for a corroded terminal on the battery, solenoid or starter.
A corroded terminal will conduct when cold but not very well and when you hit the starter button the terminal is subject to high current which makes it heat up and then it stops conducting at all.
