After 14 years of not owning one I am finally back in the saddle. Sold my 79 in 2001 to buy a brand new ZX12R and I have regretted it ever since. Looked on and off over the years and finally found one.

Bought it on Sunday for $1000.00 It hadn't been running in 3 years. I took a battery/gas can and managed to drive it home. Wasn't looking forward to trying to load it on a truck.

She ran like crap. The tank is filthy, the carbs are nasty and out of syncand the plug electrodes were almost burnt off. New plugs has it firing on all six but its still erratic. No doubt due to the bad wires and plug boots, as well as the carb situation.

She came complete with Vetter bags and fairing, all of which are coming off. I'm going for a streetfighter look. Already got the bags off but the fairing will be more complicated because I'll need to find a way to mount the headlight and signal lights. It has to come off because you should see the crap job the guy had done trying to install a stereo.

I plan to drive it for the season then strip it down over the winter. There are some immediate issues I need to address.

Horn switch dead.
Signal lights dead... probably the switch.
cooling fan dead
ignition switch is bypassed and wired to the fuse block but its not stolen. Registered it yesterday.
Exhaust collectors just about rotted off
brakes are spongy
Needs a tuneup/wires/carbs cleaned and synced.
Speedo stopped working on the way home :(

With that all looked after I can drive it for the summer

Look at the plugs... LOL

Welcome to KZ1300.COM Led!
How many miles/km on your new 13?
For starters I suggest that you review the FAQ section. You'll find the link in the main menu bar at the top of any page. After that, ask away! Have no doubt we've been there and lived to tell about it.

Thanks man.

Its got 75,000km according to the odometer but it could have been rolled over or possibly more than once. I doubt it though. I would expect more leaky engine seals and less original parts if that were case but who knows. She has spent a lot of time sitting around I'd say.
