Hello everyone! Just signed up to be a member after spending the whole day perusing the forums and reading the posts (especially liked Kawboy's posts on his project) and finally decided to go for it. Only a week ago I inherited a 1979 KZ1300 after my grandpa passed away last December (on my birthday). It has been sitting in a junky garage for god knows how long, although according to the plates it was last registered in 1989. This seems to coincide with my uncle stating he last drove it the day he graduated from High School in 1989. So there seems to be some incongruities on the history behind this bike and what, if anything, is wrong with it. I am interested in getting it running and doing my own thing with it but not really worried about "restoring" it back to its former glory. From what I can tell it is missing the headlight assembly and the gauge cluster is pretty much trashed, but otherwise it looks to be in fairly good condition. My wife is currently pregnant with our first TWO children (a boy and a girl) so I think that my progress to get this old beauty going again will be very slow. I look forward to using the resources here to get my bike up and going and will appreciate all future help from those of you out there that help me along the way. One more thing... I am not a motorcycle genius but I am a motorhead and have a love for all things with engines so I must apologize in advance for any questions that reveals how much of a newb I really am when it comes to bikes.

All newbies welcome. There's no such thing as a dumb question. I would advise that you visit 2 pages on the site and get your head wrapped around all of the issues with these bikes.

First, visit the Home Page and download the appropriate manual for your bike. Most "dumb" questions can be answered just by finding your answers in the manual. What's nice about the electronic version of the manual is being able to use the search engine to find relevant info on your question.

Second place you need to look at is in the article tab and it's called Dave's Articles. It's a collection of gathered information through the years and talks about the issues and some of the resolutions that the members have come up with. It to is searchable in that you can click on a subject in the index and it will take you to that place in the article.

Last, welcome to the site and know that we are a bunch of candy lovers. Our candy is pics because most of us are a bunch of old farts and if we eat too much real candy or chocolate, we'll be too fat to ride ! So post some pics of your "new acquisition" Also, if you have a question post a pic with the question. Most of the time we already know the answer to your question but the pics lighten up the reading and make the posts more enjoyable.

Enjoy the site !!
