I am very busy with work at the moment, so to get the big zed ready for the warmer weather coming I went against a lifetime principal regarding spending money unnecessarily – It’s a Scottish thing – and I put my bike into the local motorcycle garage for a service. It’s going pretty well at the moment but is seems to be running quite a bit hotter than usual. When I checked the radiator the coolant inside was blue, not the pink stuff that I normally use. I’m fairly sure I read somewhere that you were supposed to use a particular kind of coolant in these bikes. So forgive me if this is a stupid question but, what is the correct coolant, pink or blue, or is there no difference?

I'm using a long life coolant, suppose to be good for 4 years or 250,000 kms, it's red, the bottle says 95% v/v ethylene glycol and because it's a concentrate I use a 50/50 mixture (or near enough), but down here in OZ we only use it for anti corrosion, because of the alloy block and steel barrels, don't know if there is any "recommended" type, sorry
after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF

The manual says only to use a coolant with corrosion inhibitors for aluminum engines. I went a step further and went with one of those water wetting agents. That coolant has been in there for five years and is still a yellow/green color. Smells fine. I've never had overheating problems with my 13. If you just had someone else work on your bike are you sure they know how important it is not to have any air in the radiator?
Best of luck.
