So i removed the left hand cover to take look at the starter gears etc and i noticed it looked like they were jamming so i removed everything grabbed the end of the crank and i can move it up and down say "1.5 mm "and here noises in the engine as i do it surely this is not right i paid good money to get this rebuilt and it done 5ks tops since the build also removed the cover behind the gearstick and it seems to have some aluminium type paste in the bottom its sounding and looking very terminal your thoughts please

Sounds like it was starved for oil Ager. It may have happened if the rebuilder used a silicone based sealant and excess silicone may have broke of the sealing surfaces and lodged in the screen of the oil pump pickup tube. The items which will suffer the most are the Babbitt bearings for the crankshaft which are usually a copper shell with Babbitt lead facings that the crank and rod journals ride in. The other area which would take a beating would be the journals that the camshaft ride in and they are just a machined surface in the cylinder head casting. You need to pull the camshaft cover to look at that area before condemning the entire engine.

If the crank bearings are gone that much, I'm surprised the oil light didn't come on. One of the most important things to look for when you start up the bike, is to check that all of the indicator lights on the instrument panel light up before starting the engine. If the oil light doesn't come on then go out after the engine starts, you shouldn't be driving the bike. The oil light could be burnt out and you wouldn't know when you haven't got oil pressure.

I would expect that the engine builder will be throwing this catastrophic failure back on you telling you that the oil starvation was your fault but if the oil pickup strainer screen is full of debris, then he should be picking up some of the blame here.

I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck with the issue here. You may get lucky and just have to replace the crank main bearings but I suspect it may also cost a new cylinder head as well at the very least.

Oil light works fine and as you mentioned the last time i ran it the oil light did flash on for maybe 2 seconds then went out i have had this engine back for around a year and after quite a few issues you will have seen i finally got to where i thought it was running right other than the starter obviously this has been a problem since the rebuild as the starter has been quite temperamental since the rebuild so i am of the opinion that this motor was not built correctly in some way or other i will post when i know how serious this is cheers
