Lol Groove I sort of forgive you if only for keeping the Z alive, by the way apologies for not saying but welcome to the site. I imagine it's all about others ideas, visions and opinions as well. Just wish you had used my arch enemy the CBX1000 for the power pack always thought that looked like a big superdream so the more it was hidden the better. Best of luck with your project and hope you get a lot of positive advice and assistance on hear

I first started to get a headache looking at it, but slowly it began to click. Now, understanding your unique history and vision your choice makes sense to me. I own six motorcycles and all are much more valuable in terms of potential sale price than my KZ 1300. That by no means they are better machines because they are not, it's just what the market will bear. I have a similar year Harley that is ten times more valuable than the 1300 but half the motorcycle.

If you were one of the many "bikers" that only ride their bikes to the dealer for a summer Saturday cookout wearing your Harley uniform - HD vest, HD boots, HD underwear, etc... you may have chosen a much more expensive motorcycle and powerplant with half the power and reliability. Your choice of this 1300 is not just the right choice for this oddball arrangement but very cost effective.

I have yet to ride mine as I am very close to finishing the resurrection of a bike that has not run in many many years. The more I work on it and understand the intricate systems and the differences between this and my twins and triples the more appreciation I have for this monster of a machine.

All that said in my rambling post, the point is this. If I need parts for my 70's Triumphs or 80's Harleys I pay through the nose for new used or repop. For this 1300 I recently bought a bunch of very good and serviceable parts from a guy in Florida that parted out his perfectly good 1985 voyager because he could not sell it. A perfectly good motorcycle turns to dust due to general lack of interest. Building this reverse trike keeps another on the road and will certainly celebrate this crazy six cylinder engine that people will marvel at when you ride it. Good luck with your build.

Hi GM,
Welcome to KZ1300.COM! While a few of us might be true purists the lion's share of us only want to keep our sixes alive. Sometimes that takes more than a little welding and reshaping it's no big thing. What will you do for a rear tire? This fella from South Africa might show all of us a trick or two.

Best of luck on your project!

Thanks for the support. I did some research and eventually found that an Excelsior Coker 450-17 from Summit Racing. I attached a pic(Trike 3). It seated perfectly to the rim and has a nice flat tread for better traction. It's still quite narrow and will probably break loose easier than normal but I didn't have to modify the swing arm(shaft)at all. It would be fun to get that tire from South Africa on this project! Maybe the next one . . .

No worries Mark. As I mentioned in my history thread the KZ1300 is what came across my path in a fortuitous opportunity. Ideally I would have liked to use a Goldwing 1800 with electric reverse but finding one at a bottom line price (like I had with the KZ) just didn't present itself before this one came along. There's always the possibility of doing a chassis/drive train swap some time in the future and who knows. Maybe this will see the road again as it was intended. If that happens I'll throw a party and you're all invited. :woohoo:
