The Service Manual is worth downloading from the Home Page when you are logged in as a member. Page 13 of the manual has this chart showing what crank position you need to turn the crank to and what valves can be checked adjusted at each of those positions.

When adjusting valves at the different crank positions do you do all the exhaust at one time and move crank and do all intake?

I do all the intakes and exhausts, one cylinder at a time, starting with #6.  This method makes it easier to keep track of which cylinder I'm working on.  I use a set of feeler gauges specifically for the inlets and a separate set specifically for the exhausts.

Hi guys
i am about to do a valve clearance check and the chart shown above from the manual refers to the marking on the rotor I.e T, a 1 and 2 my rotor does not have any markings on, I have been told that I could check the clearances by positioning the lobe pointing away from the shim and doing the measurements , has anyone used this method and  will this work?

cheers

Nothing wrong in your thinking Gavin. That will work just fine. The method in the Service Manual just gives guidance on how to do it with fewer movements of the crankshaft. Carry on.

That's the only way I've ever done it.

I start with which ever lobe is "Up". Record and rotate to the next lobe that's Up.  I find this easier.
