As some of you know I just got my KZ 1300 back together after setting 17 years while I was trucking for honda running expedite freight. The point of this post is I have had these carbs back off the three times now. These 6 very small jets at the bottom of that tube beside the main jets are a serious pain it the butt. The hole in them is so small that it takes one strand of wire from a 10 gage wire to clean them if there not pluged to bad. Your going to ask how you know when they plug up. That easy when you back out of the gas and you get a pop in the ex. you got a pluged jet. Now your going to ask how do you know which one there is two ways. You split the center carb in half. now the 3 jets to the left will pop on the left side Ex. and the same for the right. So which ever side is popping is where the plug jet is at. Maybe its just me and Ohio gas and to much varnish in it or addatives. I have plug three diffrent jets each time and this last time the jet was pluged so bad I had to use one of my old jets to replace it till I can soak it in finger nail remover to clean the stuff out of it. Whats a real pisser is when I put the carbs back on after work tonight I now have a dead miss in one of the cly. Don't know which one yet I just called it a night and walked away was not in the mood to miss with it any more today. I wish I knew what opening the hole up a little bit would do cause one thing is for sure ever 600 to 700 miles and having to clean jets is for the birds.

If I remember right those small jets are for the idle mixture, they are at the bottom of a tube and have a brass screw cap on the top of the tube, real PAIN to get out when doing a carby re-build, so I didn't try after giving up on the first one, you might be running them too lean, try turning the idle screw out at least 3 and a half to 4 turns, fixed my problem trying to get it to idle right, cheers

The jets in question are indeed for the primary (idle) circuit. I suggest you just leave them in. They are a pain to remove & often impossible to get out of the threaded hole they live in.
The 3 carbs on the 1300 are an awful design & after-thought but they are all we have to use unfortunately so we just have to suffer them, but there are ways & means to make them function as good as possible. I have tried many ways to get them 100%, including bathing them in cellulose thinners, petrol & many other fluids, but the best way is described below.

Strip all 3 carbs right down to the bodies alone & soak in diesel fuel for a week or longer, turning them around every now & then.
Next flush them out with WD40 or Carb cleaner using the little thin straw type tube they include to get into every hole & channel.
Next take them to a 100 psi air line with a pointed nozzle & blow out EVERY hole & channel until clear (you can tell its clear when the air comes out the other ends).

By now your bodies should be as good & clean as new.

Build them up as new & as KZA13 states, position all 6 mixture screws at minimum 3 to 4 turns OUT from fully closed to begin with, then check plugs after a good run. Check all 3 LARGE diaphrams (top) for wear & tear & all 3 SMALL diaphrams (side)as well.

The K Workshop Manual states setting mixtures at 1.75 turns out.....THIS IS AN ERROR ON k's BEHALF & SHOULD BE IGNORED. THE MANUAL IS WRONG. THE BIKE WILL NEVER RUN PROPERLY AT 1.75 TURNS.

I have been stripping & reconditioning 1300 Carbs for the past 30 years & the above treatment is the only one I have had 100% success with.

Well I been running mixture screw between 3.25 to 3.5 turns out. I am a go for 4 I will try it. And yeah I run these carbs thru it even time they come off the bike. Was getting better each time till this last one. Bite me. This winter I going to study this system real hard. I am a perfib kinda guy so I going to figure away around these carbs for all of us with out going fuel injected.

Ok I put up a picture of me with my Bike. I took plugs out of bike clean them and put every thing back together. Reset carbs and wow the old KZ is back like she was new. Pull hard and strong all the way thru 7 grand. She comes off the line like a raped ape like the old days. I love this bike.
