Phil & strate6, My first thought was to incorporate an automotive tire but I have not had any success finding one that would fit this rim. If there is another rim out there that would work with the current swing arm and shaft drive and would also accomodate an automotive tire please let me know. Otherwise I want to try and fit the stock rim. As for cornering my reverse trike will not allow the rear tire to lean at all (another reason for a flatter profile automotive tire) althought there would be g-forces applied to the bead similar to a car. Thoughts? Thanks again and have a great day.

There is no other wider wheel that fits or can replace the standard 1300 rear wheel.......its unique to the model.

The only way is to have someone cut the rim off & weld a wider one on from another bike...........which can & has been done but is very expensive & needs the correct off-set & is pretty complicated.

I THINK Phil has one of these wider wheels on his special 1300.???????

I have a heavily modified Yamaha VMAX rear diff (final drive) on my own Z1300 to allow a wider 3 spoke wheel (160 section), but this meant a lot of engineering work & one off swinging arm being made.

Unfortunately you are stuck with what you have unless you want to spend a lot of money altering it !

I have got a 180-section rear tyre on my 13, it involved having the wheel modified & the swingarm modified slightly. 180 is the biggest you can go before serious modification. Another consideration is that the rear wheel is 17 inches diameter & going this route means that if you fit modern rubber it is of a lower profile, which lowers the gearing, as a couple of people I know have found when they did the mod. I had an 18 inch rim welded on to keep the same tyre rolling circumference as the original, although I think the lowered gearing would be an advantage on a trike as you're pulling more weight. A fella called Cam in Tasmania had his wheels converted & runs car tyres on his Z1300 outfit: www.dreadsbikersite.com/Z1300/cams_13.htm

having a sidecar fitted so it me look for a flat treaded tyre, vintage car tyres are the place to look, I did fit one to another 1300 I had back in the 80's with a sidecar, think it was off an old ford or the like, also they do make a flat tread tyre that is for the rim for people that have sidecars, a bit of searching should yield results, you just have to watch the speed rating

here is an Excelsior 17" tyre that will fit the 13's rim and gives you flat tread on the road :- www.vintagetyresales.com.au/catalog5.html
