Well I got it all fixed up and running! I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I pulled off the windbreaker and the hard cases for now but will hang on to them for later. I've still got some tuning to do here and there but the thing pulls like crazy and is so much quieter than I expected but sounds fantastic up through the revs. I'm so happy I found this bike!

Looks a lovely example, and (in my opinion) so much nicer without the luggage: great find.

I can appreciate both the touring look and the naked look. I prefer the naked look only because I'm a fair weather rider and don't need to take "other" things with me when I go for a ride. You've done a great job with the conversion and kept the clean stock appearance. Kudos to you for that.
I'd hate to see the 79 parted out since it appears to be all there, just in a sad state, but maybe all you want to do is ride a really nice early 80's example. Parting out usually ends up with the major components selling reasonably fast but then there's all the other things that nobody wants and end up getting tossed. That's the shame of it all. Breaks my heart when that happens.

Hey Raygun, nice finds. Got to keep these awesome machines on the road. I certainly hope that you don't break the A1 as she would be absolutely fabulous restored. Keep up the good work.

Not sure what I'll do with the A1 yet. I hear what y'all are saying but cosmetically it is a nightmare and would require a significant investment to get into good looking shape. I don't really do paint... I'm just a wrench turner.
