I recently got a set of forks from Ebay and it has the dual collar set-up for , I assume, equalizing the air pressure between the forks.

At the tops, the forks differ. One has an air valve, (The Air Valve is capped)the other is a solid bolt, no through hole.

Should I expect the top ends to be the same? How do the collars function?

I got a good price on ebay so figured I would grab them for a spare set.

On later model 1300s they had balanced air forks.
If you look at the fork legs close to the area the headlamp brackets sit you will see they both have a small hole in them. This is the position the air balance link pipe needs to cover so the air hole is in the middle of each balance piece.
This means you only need an air valve at the top of ONE fork leg, as it balances each fork by the link pipe.
You should find o rings in each balance piece which often perish so worth checking them before use.

Hope that helps ?

Pete,

Thank you, that is the info I needed.

The O-rings are gone completely.

In my work I expect symmetry, so when I noticed the ends were different, I assumed that was incorrect.

If you have your factory fork lobes (for your headlight bucket) the newer fork lobes are shorter, to accommodate the air crossover tubes.

If you have the older (Longer) set of fork lobes, you can cut to fit but then you will need the three spacers per side, that cap and cushion the shorter fork lobe. Take a look at the micro fiche, it will show you the parts breakdown and how it all goes together.

I had to do the same modification. (Located the spacers, and found a used set of longer fork lobes and cut them down on a band-saw, to fit the air-crossover tubes.

Regards.
