hi,

i am in the process of replacing the water pump seal and all its relative bits to my kz1300.

i have taken out the impeller and seal and im now down to the next step.

i have decided to not pull the engine apart and replace the shaft or the bevel gear as i believe they are both ok....

any tips from anyone as to how to extract the seal hidden behind the impeller that wedges into the head?.......see pic enclosed.

thanks met

Hello Met:

Not sure where you reside but if it's in the States, go to your local Harbor Freight tool supply and obtain a "Seal Pick". One of sufficient size to reach in that recessed area, but strong enough to pluck that seal out of that boss. (recessed area)

Be careful with the pump-shaft and outer dia seal mating surfaces, don't score or gouge them.

I've also seen others run in two self tapping screws 180 deg. apart, and use a small slide hammer to coax it out.

Keep us posted.
