Things came to another full stop when I went to bolt-up the headers.  The "steel" gaskets supplied with the "Italianmetals" engine gasket set.......don't fit !? 
Hardly rocket science - you'd think - to make or supply the correct size.

Cylinder head gaskets have been debated in the past. Out of interest, did you buy a genuine one, or use the one in your gasket set?
