You want to look for the MA classification in the fifth column. MA-1 and MA-2 would also be fine but a definite upgrade above the requirements.

Just going to throw a spanner in the works for the purpose of debate. I’m currently using this make of oil in my bike with no issues whatsoever. The bike gets used regularly during the summer months and isn’t due an oil change for another 500 miles. However, the bike hasn’t been used for the last 6 months due to being in storage over the winter so the oil is technically over 18 months old. If we are led to believe what the manufacturers tell us I should be changing the oil now as the oil breaks down over time even if the bike is not being used.

If the oil has been in the motor that long without use, I personally would change it regardless of what manufacturers tell us.
It may have levels of moisture in it now which can be accumulated by varying temperatures over the storage time.
If however, your bike is kept in a steady warm environment all the time, then the oil should be ok for use.
Only my opinion..................but be prepared for War & Peace replies on this one mate !!!

The bike is indeed kept in a warm garage and will be getting an oil/fluid change before I take it out again. Thanks for the warning and I’m sure this will open up the debate further.

My JASO MA2 oil appeared yesterday and I filled up the KZ1300 with just under 5L of it.

Then I decided to change the oil and filter on the KZ1000P. What a palaver!

The oil was jet back, and I could not get the filter out as the exhaust clamp was in the way. In the end I had to cut a clamp bolt to get the filter out. It looks like it has never been changed.

BTW, how does one change the filter on a KZ1300? There are even more pipes in the way..!?

Anyway, new filter in, new oil in, proper warm-up and then a test ride.

Where at the top end I used to get a little slippage, now I can get to 10000rpm without any slippage. So result! (well, at least on my bike).

But in any case I am glad I changed the oil as it was bad...

10,000RPM ? At that speed, "clutch slippage" would be the least and last of my concerns !
