Thanks guys, all appreciated. Just rode 40 miles on her and there is only ( does it exist ? ) a half drip smearing that cap. Just a very VERY fine weep and actually nothing to worry about but if I can just undo it ( I haven't got the bottle - lol ) then I can re-seal it accordingly. I can also not find any reference to it either on my service/parts CD ! :(

My motorcycle oil arrived today......20/50 semi synth for MOTORCYLES :P which I'll change to, as and when I find out more about this 'half of a half' drip :blink:

Hi Wirral (don't know your name) there are 2 of these on the bottom crankcase on the same oil gallery. they are simply just plugs and serve no other purpose, put a 17mm on it and remove it they support or connect nothing

Further meant to say they are fitted with an O seal probably the same size as your sump drain plug

On my Vmax, there are a few of these plugs / caps around the engine. They have the large allen key slot head and an o-ring on them.

One of them on the RH side is the one you remove when fitting an oil pressure gauge (as someone suggested earlier).

I think on the Z1300 due where they are positioned, they may have been for an Oil Cooler or similar, but were never utilised.

There are also 2 of these plugs on the rear face of the sump / oil pan.

Not worried as it is so minor...so left as is and changed the oil anyway :)

wonder if they were "left overs" from when they cast the casings, sort of overflows for the molten metal, they have to remove the casting material in places after the metal cools and perhaps these are places that was done and the just tapped the hole and put a plug in it ??
after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF
