Thanks Scotch, I came to the tape solution also, but did not look up the installation / orientation which should help.

Interesting, the part reference # for the collars is 92027-1142 and as far as I can see, all years and models use 12 of these according to the parts manual. So how did you end up with the collars on the outer pipes being shorter?? (Just asking)

I don't know, I have 2 z1300, both are '79 models, one is for parts the other my rat bike daily rider, thought it was normal, perhaps some idiot used some collars from some other bike on it ??, i'll do some hunting around today to see if I can find the spares and take a photo. Maybe they got wet and shrunk ??? :-) :-) :-) :-)

Yep your right, seems I have some short ones on my bike for some unknown reason, didn't look at the parts list, just put them back where they came off ... wonder why ???, anyway sorry about my post, all collars are the same length except mine :-), i'll add photos, the large threaded bar is a sidecar connection, and you'll see the 1 and 6 tighten down closer to the head, and looks like the tappet cover gasket is leaking a bit, have to look at that when I check the shim clearance over my xmas holidays

Not a problem. Shit happens. You might want to swap out those shorts ones if you get a chance. I don't like seeing the collars tight on the head.

Nah stuff 'em, ain't leaking, anti-seize on the threads, why touch 'em if I don't have to :-), promise to look at them when I get around to pulling the head off to do the leaking valve stem seals and change the cam chain cog over to the steel one I bought, haven't got time to take it off the road, cause it's my transport, or till I get some holidays and I stop procrastinating :-), nobody knows I have short ones, it'll be a secret between you and me :-)
