Hi all,

I am at the stage of deciding on a new battery. The stock Yuasa according to the manual has 20 Ah and 240 CCA.

I found a post on the forum where Tackelhappy installed a 'huge 170 CCA' battery.

I am looking at the Shorai batteries as they are lighter and smaller and found one LFX14A2-BS12, which has 14Ah and 210 CCA. Priced at USD 159...

Will that be enough? It is lower capacity than the stock Yuasa one, but higher than what Tackelhappy installed. I live in London where it does not get very cold....

Advice please on the spec I need to look for. (I already have bought a new 'proper' Shingdengen regulator!)

One would think that the lower amp-hour rating would only be of significance if the engine was a pig to start. But with Scotch’s enrichening modification and a good ignition system you should be ok with a smaller A/h battery. The cranking amps rating should be enough .
Just my opinion.
Oh, and preferably avoid a ‘Made in China’ battery - or anything made in China!

That is a Lithium Battery , there is a load of information posted by members on this Forum , and eleswhere , about Lithium Batteries , and the problem with being overcharged by the OEM charging system . I fitted a Motobat Battery , not had it long , nor had the bike out on the road , but so far it has turned the bike over better than any Battery I tried in the past .

I fitted a Motobatt to my Z1300 and it’s been fine even though the bike can be a bit of a pig to start when cold. However, they don’t like to be overcharged and the one on the GT 750 packed in after two years due to a faulty voltage regulator so don’t forget to check your voltage output as recommended in the manual.

Motobatt here too. The last one was a Motobatt & lasted 10 years. Same in my other bike too. The trick is to keep them hooked up to a smart battery tender when laid up for longer than a couple of weeks, they give the battery a bit of exercise as well as keeping it charged, batteries hate non use. If you go the Motobatt route buy from a reputable source as some counterfeits are known. I've heard of two situations where Lithium batteries caught fire on a bike.

I fully agree with Phil and Mizz................Motobatt is the best and most cost effective way to go.
