hi all
started work on the A5 today. UK bike
can i have some opinions or identification help guys. several things
1. left switch gear has 2 small switches at the top. neither work, and i cannot find a user manual to see what they are supposed to do. 1 red 1 black.? SEE PICTURE
2. i have a plug and wire dangling by switch gear. my guess is this is the clutch switch?. there is nowhere to plug it in so has the switch gear been changed?
3. My guess is the plug goes into the clutch lever housing? if so that is not standard i guess.
4. air forks. i have 1 valve cap and one non valve cap.. i should have 2 caps and a pipe balancing them ?
thanks for help chaps.
Tad

left switch gear . 1 red 1 black.?
  • RED is hazard (Four-way flashers)
  • "skinny" black Auto Turn Signal cancel switch

plug and wire dangling by switch gear. my guess is this is the clutch switch?.
Correct ! The OEM Clutch handle/perch would have held this.

air forks. i have 1 valve cap and one non valve cap.. i should have 2 caps and a pipe balancing them ?

  • You are correct. Can't imagine why someone would have a "filler-valve" on ONLY one !

    Cheers scotch
Wiring repairs then and search for correct clutch lever.
Any idea if the air fork os any different to earlier non air.
If not i need to search for new valves and pipe. Or run without air.

You can not run the front shocks without air !!!!!!!!
The Clutch-lever switch should look similar to:

    The OEM clutch-handle perch:

When the clutch-handle is pulled in the switch closes to complete a circuit. I removed the clutch-switch years ago. Found it to be a P.I.T.A. when trying to start and wanting to adjust the choke lever at the same time. Easy to bypass - (sounds like a P.O. has already done this, somehow) Can't remember where the bullet-plugs are - Headlight bucket or under the tank ? . If you want to eliminate this switch just find the two bullet connectors and jump the Harness leads with a short pig-tail that has two Female bullet connectors. Now your left hand is free to adjust the choke , hold a beer or what ever !

    Thanks for pics
Yes its already bypassed. I have a working version on my z1000 a1
Not sure its the same as yours mate. My spare loom by the lever has a square plug?

I have looked at parts schematic and the air cap with a valve is on the left as you sit on the bike, with a blank on the right so that seems correct. I dont seem to have the link pipe though.
I need a close look at someones bike to see the set up really

I made my own from readily available off-the-shelf brass fittings. Covers (optional) were made from aluminum. Hope the pictures help.
