I finally bit the bullet and fitted accel coils to my 13. They were not cheap and as a Scotsman parting with that amount of money all in one go nearly sent my sporran into hypertension. That was about four years ago and they are still functioning perfectly. So I would say they are worth the extra expense.

Fitted Dyna coils about 18 years ago after the originals were failing when hot. Have been fine.

its running on 3 cylinders......

cylinders 6 - 4 - and 2 are working with 5 (coming in when it feels like)....so each coil is outputting one cylinder only.......

dont worry i ve got it all figured.....i have a cliff in mind....its the one with water underneath.
so at least it will be doing something usefull - for a f
n change.....home to the octopus

That is weird, and yes if you've got one cylinder from each coil working reliably, then that tends to suggest everything up to the coils is good, carbs aside.

Could indeed be open-circuit output windings on the cylinders that are failing, with the windings for cyl#5 perhaps being a temperature (either way dependent fault?

These could be confirmed by measuring the output sides, but the other thing, if lead-lengths permit, is to swap the plug leads on any two shared cylinders and see if the dead cylinder follows the suspect plug lead / coil winding?

If one plug lead is too short you can use a spare HT lead from any engine as an extension for a 1-off test, or just swap the longest plug-lead only, to see if you get a different firing cylinder on that, same result ultimately.
