Ok, I know many of you will be thinking what a newbe but here's my first what-the-heck? on my new to me 1300.
I bought the bike from a fellow in New Brunswick who said that they "don't need turn signals" there. Well I need them so I hooked up a set of aftermarket types that look good and give running lights on the front too. All good except that after I finished up and turned the bike on and started it, the oil light stayed on! Not good.
After consulting with the manual supplied on this site and the 1982 Supplement I find that I have somehow disturbed the oil level indicator relay which lives in the tail light cowling. Really? Must have been while I was fishing the signal light wires through. Thought I'd give a heads up to anyone else who's scratching their head on this one.

Well at least you found the issue. Kudos to you. I'm guessing that you shaved the insulation off of the feed wire to the relay and it grounded out on the frame and turned on the relay.
