Hi all,
hope all is well,
could anybody suggest or does anyone know of a direct replacement for the fuse box under the seat on a 1981 kz1300,
any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. thanks a mill

Took me ages to find a good used one with a lid on ebay, my original had all the mounting tabs broken and was held in with cable ties, darn plastic gets brittle after 30 odd years , I didn't try and find any replacement, although I guess a newer one with the spade type fuses would be good, let me know if you do find one that fits, cheers

The fuse box on a 1300 is unique to the model itself so not fitted to any other models.

I bought a more modern Blade Type Fuse Box & just soldered it in.

Much cheaper & easier to use.

If you do find one online, make sure you have good photos of the underside. It's a hit or miss proposition. besides the clear cover being crazed or broken, some of the used ones at auction can be really corroded. (The Brass contacts)

I happened to find a good one on Craigslist using www.yakaz.com

Using this site grabs all C.L. adds nationwide (U.S) and can be a good way to locate single items.

If you cannot find an OEM one, Russell above has a good suggestion for a generic Blade Type Fuse Box. Using the stock Kawasaki (molded) electrical connectors will allow you to adapt any modified fuse box to the original harness. (Electrical plugs available from Z1enterprises.com or Z1parts.net) Or from your local Kaw Dealership.

I think some of of those 90 degree blade connectors would work pretty good for connecting everything.

It's about the same size and with a small bracket, it may even fit the same spot.

Plus it gives you one more fused circuit from the 5 slot factory unit.

The only concern I see is space on the backside.

Be careful that the larger main circuit conductors fit in such a tight space. Also shrink wrap would be a good idea to insulate the adjacent wiring that will be in close proximity to each circuit.

If you do use it, let us know how it turns out, this one may make a good sticky to save for future reference.

You could use a P-Touch label machine to label each circuit on the lid.
