Not trying to be smart however looking at the left side cover (under the seat key lock cover) you should see a legend noting the key position for park, run (or On) and off if the key is not in the run position the bike has either no power to ign or limited to run the hazards no dash lights will come on in the off position of the seat lock switch (early anti thief design) caught me a couple of times back 79 just after I got my 13.

Hope this helps

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you Richard. That was the culprit! Needs to be in the 'horizontal' position.

So, now we have power, took plugs out a dash "Marvel mystery oil" in each bore gave it a crank, oil light goes out quick, spark to each cylinder. So new plugs, oil&filter, check coolant, clean carbs take brave pill and hit the switch.

..............................anything else i should be doing before waking up the monster from a deep sleep?

crank it over with the plugs out just to get the oil up the top to lubricate the top end.

you may want to check that the carb sliders work (if you have the air snorkels off you should be able to hold the throttle wide open and check that the sliders move up and fall back down smoothly if they are stuck or go up and don't want to fall all the way back down on their own be careful if you still try to start it may rev really quickly, make sure the throttle cables don't stick.

Better safe then sorry.
