Been searching and cannot find any info. In order to remove the ignition coils do I have to remove the top radiator hose aS well? Or am I missing something?

I don't think so.

First remove the lower two coils by removing the two nuts on the top side of the coil mounting plate (two either side of the upper coil - under the mountain of wiring).

Then remove the two nuts for the upper coil from the underside of the plate.

Due to the wiring harness, I have to start from the left and work my way right- as you pull each coil, it will open up access to the bolts on the next one. You can pull the wires off once the coils are removed.

Ahh yes that will work I think. Because of the sidecar I was working from the right hand side and from there it meant removing the radiator so you could remove the top hose. There was no way I was getting that right hand side off without doing that, which seemed a little odd to me (pita).

The further I go the more it seems I might have to remove the sidecar;(

A couple of 'bugger this!!' stress moments and 'walk off the job' moments but I got them out eventually. I am learning soooo much and it feels good that I may some day be the master of my own destiny in terms of the Z1300. Hey Pete, I was a poofteenth off taking the sidecar off but after some considered checking of wires I realised they don't all have connections so I persevered with it still connected. Though I might have to go and see my osteopath sooner rather than later :pinch:.

Making the sidecar easier to remove will be another project in itself, I have done preliminary investigations and to do it properly will take some time and effort. I am reluctant to go too deep into the project so as to avoid drowning in information and loose parts all over the place  (organised of course), so I'm concentrating my efforts on remembering charging systems, ignition systems and carburetors right now.
