Are you guys running factory ignition coils or have you upgraded?

The choke isn't really a choke but a fuel enricher. You should only use it at tick over to get it started then shut it off. The 1300 is a bit cold blooded so you may need to run with choke on part of they way for a few minutes. Running with the choke full on for any length of time will dump a good bit of fuel into the engine.

Can you take a close picture of the spark plugs and post it for us to see?

Any smoke during start-up?

Hi Guys
put the new plugs in and fired up reasonably easy and ran on five cylinders for about a minute and then the sixth chimed in[presuming unburnt fuel caused the hesitation] after about five minutes settled down to a steady tickover and seems to be pretty smooth unfortunately clutch cable has snapped once i have fitted the new one i will take it for a run, i suppose the proof will be when its been left for a while and i try and start it, the old plugs were pretty black but even the ones i cleaned would not fire so i wonder if i have also brought fake plugs in the past

Hi Tyler, wat do the fouling plugs in combination to smoke during start up say to you?
Thats what I have with mine. Compression is very good on all cylinders.

Smoke on start up??? Typical symptoms of bad valve seals. Oil runs down the valve stems and either sits on the intake valves and gets sucked in on initial start up or the valve is open and the oil runs down and saturates the piston. Another symptom of bad valve seals is sitting at idle for a minute or two, then rev up the engine a few times and look for smoke. High intake vacuum will pull oil past the seals and high intake vacuum happens at idle to 1500 rpm no load.
