As PeteF states a heat gun/hair dryer on the carbs. Worked for me every time during the winter when the bike had been standing for a week or more.
Got some strange looks from the neighbours walking into the garage with a hsir dryer though

Guys, thanks for the tips: will take on board all hints and venture into my garage later today with a hair dryer  and report back.

Joking aside, I can normally coax an engine into life, but she was having none of it yesterday.

Just another tip which people often forget.......

Petrol is a natural product so just like other natural products it "goes off" after a short time & looses its essential qualities.

You may find its ok once the engine is actually running, but bad/poor/old petrol can often refuse to ignite in colder conditions & takes longer to evaporate.

Might be a good idea to replace the fuel with good fresh stuff before trying to start.

And on the fuel note.
unleaded fuels 95 ron. are now mixed with 5% ethanol and in some cases 10%.
if left to stand this can separate and also attract water in as little as 4 weeks.
only the lower end unleaded fuels have this
super unleaded and BP ultimate 98 ron do not have ethanol
and i think Tescos have a 99 ron
and as Pete says
i would buy some decent fuel and flush everything through.

Guys thanks for the tips: I did as Pete initially suggested and tried the hair dryer technique - and  she fired up almost before my finger hit the starter button !! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Tomorrow I will drain the tank and put a few gallons of ethanol free in her !
Once again, thanks for the tips.

I do have one more dumb question - may be paranoia on my part and may not be related: but, after running her for about 10 mins I noticed the engine casing housing the stator was pretty warm - is this normal on the Z13 or should I be looking at the regulator / rectifier.

Yours Confused - Cheers Tim
