The background is that in Europe/ Germany the abbreviation KZ stands for Konzentrationslager, dating back to the era during the war when the Nazis erected those concentration camps to kill approx. 6 billions people.

I guess you agree that you would not name your bike after that, so Kawasaki left out the KZ and took the Z instead.

As mentioned before differences are minor.

Hi Tonto - exactly. Did you guys know the german models had a Special decal on the side (see attached) with the German flag ?

I think from memory also that the handlebars were different on the KZs (higher?) & the throttle cables exited from the top of the twistgrip (?) & below on the Zs (?). Also the rear mudguard (fender) was shorter on the KZs (?).

On the Zs the throttle cables exit from the top, tank is higher, lights manually switched on and handlebars narrower and lower. The injection models had the special badge on the side in Germany. The German impoter also decorated the last batch of 200 bikes with the Big Six stickers in late eighties.
