Ok, so I have bypassed the ignition voltage to the coils and still have the same results.
little back story:
this bike is hard to start cold, as in crank 5 to ten minutes and it starts. once it has started the first time it will start all day untill you let it sit for a good spell then the hard start returns.
I have: replaced fuel filter, checked pump pressure, all ignition paths,( gets proper voltage where needed.) ensured injectors function, new plugs, no air leaks and no voltage drop in ignition circuit.
What am I missing?
I have the manuals and cannot find an answer, also the light on the DFI box will come on when the key is turned on but does not stay on, is this normal?

The ignition coils are a common source of the hard to start problem.
The gurus here recommend changing them for more reliable units.
Go to the search tab and type "Ignition coils" and you will find an amazing amount of info on them.

Hello C.B.

Have you checked the compression? What is it reading? Do a series throttle closed then wide open.

Coils may exhibit a bright spark out of the cylinder but may be weak while installed under compression and wet with fuel. If you do an arc test per the manual, that should give you a better idea on how the coils are performing.

Are the coils original? If so, they may be tired. Any signs of cracking?

I agree with Rick on what he and others state on coils.

As for my bike, I have a set of Dyna coils and it fires right up, after I had the carbs sorted out.

How many miles are on your bike?

Also while you have the manual, have you had an opportunity to go through the troubleshooting chart for hard starting?

Based on your post, you mention is has fuel pressure but I have seen these regulators bleed down prematurely, and under certain throttle conditions, be week and under deliver fuel pressure.

Regards.

Todd.

Will check compression in the morning, bike has 40,000 or so on it.
I guess the light on the DFI is working correctly then?
