New Mikuni pilot jets ordered with an expected delivery date of the 30th August. I’ll be interested to see if this cures the slight misfire between 1500-2500 and will post my results after the road test.

Hi Gents,
Well the jets arrived much earlier than expected so set about removing the old jets but not without a couple of problems. Without giving away the solution to the problem too soon here’s a bit of a clue.

I'll take a crack at solving the puzzle.

So you broke the screwdriving ear off of the jet and used a piece of carbon steel welding rod and a drill to friction weld the rod to the jet and spin out the jet at the same time?
If I won the prize, I would suggest that you take one of your screwdrivers and grind the tip to fit one of the new jets perfectly and dedicate that screwdriver for future carb work. You can't just use any screwdriver to remove those idle jets. If the screwdriver loosely fits the jets, you will break those ears everytime. Scotch's write up on carb rebuilding covered this in detail.

I'm also a firm believer in left handed twist drill bits for removing damaged bolts , screws, etc. Rather than driving in a broken stud, or screw in to a blind hole when drilling out with a regular right handed twist bit, the left handed twist bit will more than likely drive the broken piece out of the thread as it trys to drill in to the broken piece. Harbor Freight left handed twist bits $8.49
