Hello All:

I know the shop manual calls for a wet float level measurement, and I have the tools to do that wet level check.

what I wonder is has anyone ever come up with a dry level (Static) float level measurement before the bowls go back on? (the manual does not call out a dry float level measurement.)

I hate to put a fresh gasket on and then pull the bowl back off, if one of the floats need to be adjusted. The old gaskets came off in pieces, so I cannot use them.

I'm not suggesting that we all need to custom fabricate brass floats but I do suspect that our foam floats gain weight as a result of the alcohol the doo gooders force us to use in this country. I haven't proven it yet but I'm working on it.
My point is that I believe that any dry float level may not yield the factory specked 5.5 to 8.5 mm below the top of the bowl for the fuel level.

Thanks for the thread link Bill:

I did read it and as a last ditch effort to come up with new floats, this may come in handy.

I'm currently in a rebuild on a core set of carbs recently purchased. So far they seem to be a good core and I'm hoping for the best. I'll put these floats in solution and see if they become weighted with any saturation, hopefully not.

I'm past the cleaning stage with these carbs and after inspection, they look promising.

Yesterday I was able to purchase an industrial grade ultrasonic cleaner that was only used a couple of times. An $1,800.00 unit, that I was able to snag for $400.00. It did a great job in short order on the parts.

Hello Todd i did a dry float adjustment on my 82 with Main jets in strait edge across both jets measurment to the float in the middle 10mm gave me a wet measurment of 6.5 below the carby main body .

Hey guys!

This thread got me thinking: Isn't there something lightweight we can coat our floats with to resist ethanol absorption? I looked around the internet and apparently the issue has been tossed around frequently with people using cork floats in carburetors... I wonder if this can be adapted for use in our bikes since that solution would certainly be much easier than manufacturing brass floats.
