Guys
need some advice, my 13 feels like it is not running properly on all six so i brought a cheap laser temp gun, while appreciating it is not likely to very accurate temp wise it does show that cyl 1&2 are significantly cooler than the other 4[about 40degrees] i am guessing this is likely to be carbs?
thanks
Paul

I have noticed my IR temperature gun can give funny readings from a polished chrome surface. You already suspect its not running right so then I would suspect the carb feeding 1 and 2 has issues.

The question is then, is the problem at idle, or open throttle, or all the time? Is it just on of the cylinders or both?

Possible causes would range from bad float levels, to idle ajustement, poor sync, plugged jets, and so on.

If it is 1 + 2 then it will be the carb that feeds that cylinder at fault.

Easy start to fixing before more involvement is by removing the 2 mixture screws at the top from the carb and make sure the small holes at the bottom of the screws tunnels are clear (use a single strand of throttle or clutch cable).
Clean the mixture screws very carfully, coat with a light layer or grease and ensure o ring at the top is ok, then screw then all the way IN carefully and then back out 3 TURNS.

See if that makes any difference ?

Thanks
for the reply Pete not very confident/capable with carbs but will have a go as soon as i get a chance occasionally it seems to clear completely but although the pipes get hot they are significantly cooler on the 2 pipes mentioned
cheers

My temperature gun also gives me weird readings... far lower than I would expect them to be. Must be that chrome reflection thing. However inaccurate, it works well enough to see who is running hot or cold.

I wonder of using them on the collars would be more accurate. Mine are black so maybe no reflection? I'll have to try that.

I bought a neat little tool last night while shopping online.

www.carbtune.com/colortune.html

Allows you too see the color of your cylinder flame for carb tuning.
