Hi All,
Can anyone clarify which way to weaken or rich up the mixture? Ive been told screw in for richer and someone else said the oposite,,,,,

I think the standard setting is 1.3/4 turns out but looks like most go for 3 turns out.
Which mine are but looking at the plugs they seem to be a bit on the rich side.
The slide needles are set at the mid slot and main jet are 110.

Ive also had loads of problems with getting number 1cyl to run properly, and after cleaning the carbs multiple times its finally abit better but still not right.

In desperation I bought a set of carbs from the states and I think off a later model
( mines 1979 ) and noticed that the mixture screws are blanked off, will this mean you can never adjust them??

The manufacturer puts that blank over them. That generally means that noone has gone in yet on those carbs to make adjustments. Pretty much what everyone does is drill those coverings off to expose the screws so the adjustments can be made which I think is recommended anyway .

Looking DOWN onto the top of your carbs you have 6 brass mixture screws.

If you screw them IN it WEAKENS the mixture.

If you screw them OUT it RICHENS the mixture.

Unfortunately Kawasaki wrote their settings WRONG in their workshop manual. They say start at 1.75 turns out.........no chance, forget it.

Screw them all the way in GENTLY until you feel them touch the bottom of the hole. Then screw them OUT 3.5 turns & go from there.
I NORMALLY FIND THEM BEST SET BETWEEN 3.5 & 4.5 TURNS OUT.

I can assure you after rebuilding & setting up 1300 carbs for 35 years now, this is correct & the ONLY WAY to get your mixtures perfect is with a Gunsons Color Tune Plug. Forget all the other stuff, this is the only tool that can do it 100%. It is basically a Glass Spark Plug that lets you see your petrol burning inside the cylinder & adjust accordingly with the mixture screws until 100% spot on.

Hi Pete, Ive got a colour tune already and used it more to try and find out why number 1cyl wasnt combusting properly, as mentioned its better now but not perfect. You could see with the colour tune at lower revs it wasnt firing at all. Someone has told me that the z13 are more likely to play up on the outer cylinders especialy number 1, not sure if thats true.

If is does not fire on that cylinder when you set at 3.5 turns out then you obviously have a blockage somewhere on that circuit.

Have you stripped the carbs & cleaned the 3 bodies yet ?
