Nice catch and I like your solution. Nothing like a trusty go old Bosch 12V 30A relay. Less than $10 and you can find them everywhere. Well Done.
Crappers, just found these on FleeBay 10 pack for $23.

or a single relay @ Canadian tire $5.79

I also appreciate the simplicity of your fix.
Would be interesting to understand why the OEM relay malfunctioned. (Curiosity hasn't killed me yet). Could be contaminated contacts but more likely the FINE wire wrapped around the electromagnet core, has broken. If you get curious perhaps you could let the forum know - just for sake of understanding. Took two pictures of a typical relay which are self explanatory.

It's the actual contacts. They're oxidized/corroded. I cleaned them once already, and cleaned them again with the relay out and got it working again. I'm just not willing to take the chance on it again.

I also rode it about 300 miles today down to Greenville Cars and Coffee, and back via Brevard, Maggie Valley, and the Parkway.

It performed flawlessly aside from an oil leak again from the tachometer cable. My fix last week just pushed the oil up the cable where it leaked out at the cluster, then ran down the frame.

My tach drive gear just has a rubber cylinder instead of the oil seal on the parts fiche. I ordered the new seal and the correct gasket to replace my homemade one. Hopefully that'll plug the leak.

Just a thought here.
Did you happen to check the crankcase vent hose/ fitting was clear? Seems like you have some crankcase pressure building up. Really unusual that oil would be coming out of the top of the tach cable.

Another 300 miles! It’s great to hear that you are using the bike, and obviously enjoying it.
Aside from the slight oil leak, has the engine consumed any oil?
What do you find to be a comfortable cruising speed, for the engine , and for you?

I'll definitely check the crankcase vent. I didn't do that.

Cruising speed on the highway is around 4500rpm.

The motor consumed about 1/2qt of oil for the roughly 1000 miles I've ridden so far. Some of that is the leak, but not all that much.

Consumption seems a little high, but I have zero experience with these bikes to know what's normal/expected.
