Finally after what seemed like an eternity, the Beast lives again!

I need some advice on the carburetors, The idle is not so good, I have yet to check the sync. What are you guys running for an air screw adjustment? I'm at 2.5 turns out, as recommended by a tuning guide, the manual says 1-3/4 turns... where should I be?

Mains are 105, pilots are 47, needle clip 4th slot down.

Hi Tyler,

I've been under the impression that the only pilots available were 42's. I'm thinking that 4 turns out is not too far. You should be adjusting them for best (fastest) idle. Have you read Scotch's thread on carbs?

3-1/2 turns seems to be a good place to start according to most.

KZQ, sorry I miss-typed, the pilots are 45's the keyster kit came with pilots marked 42.5 I assmume that is stock.

The air screws should be matched to the pilot jet, in my mind a large pilot needs more air in the pilot circuit. When tuning a normal CV type carburator larger pilots allow faster off-idle throttle responce and its pretty common to increase the pilot by one size. This can remove the hesitation when transitioning to the needle.

Perhaps I dont need the bigger pilots, I take the appraoch of setting up carbs on the fat side, and tunning them leaner. It seems to be easier, at least it is for me.

The exauhst is from DG, they are not cheap but the quality is good. There are few others available but they are very expensive. Thr stock exhaust is probably the best option performance wise, but its heavy. The weight savings changing to a 6 into 1 are pretty significant.
