Ok Chaps,

Its obvious we all love our respective 1300's, but if you are like me you will have s second "love" of your life ( & not the missus) !!
I had 6 Yamaha RD350 LC's across the 1980's & was always fascinated by how light, fast strong & fun bikes they were & so cheap & easy to own.
I did also like the Honda CBX1000z which I had a few of in the 80's, but found them to be very high maintenance & a very soft fussy motor, but still an iconic bike.

So whats your other love chaps ???

Hope this is an ok "Daily Chatter" post Bill ?

I was also a Yamaha RD fan. Not long after I passed my test I got an air cooled RD250. Went like the clappers although I think it used as much 2 stroke oil as it did petrol. Progressed to a 250LC which seized, then another 250LC then onto a 350LC. I had 2 350LC's - phenomenally fast bikes and great fun to ride.
I think my favourite bike though was a Z1000ST which I ran for 10 years. Lovely bike with a bullet proof engine.
I fancied getting a 350LC last summer and watched a few on ebay but they were going for silly money. I think they've become collectors items now - bit like the z1300.
That's something you don't see much of now.....2 stroke bikes. Do they still make them ?

cheers

Billy

LOL !
I think its now down to horrible little 50cc scooters & maybe chain saws & lawn mowers etc............It was a real experience & delight to live through the 2 stroke history era as we did........some great bikes like the RD350LC & RD400E & RD500LC & RD500 Gamma.........its a lost age now but one I am glad I was part of.
Seeing the GOD that was Barry Sheen on an RG500 was just a pleasure I will never forget & when I was 17 in 1978 I WAS ACTUALLY BARRY SHEEN..............until I nearly killed myself on an White RD250E........but thats another story mate !!!!!! LOL

Hi Pete

I think they must have stopped making 2 stroke bikes because of the high number of accidents. You had to practically chain yourself to the 350LC to stay on it and a bit too much throttle at a set of traffic lights had the bike on it's back wheel. In the early eighties nearly ALL bikes under 250cc were 2 strokes.
I also notice that 2 stroke oil is now red in colour ? When did that happen.....what happened to the good old blue stuff ???

happy days

Billy

I think they stopped making 2-strokes because of the tree huggers, shame :(
As well as sixes, I'm a V-twin man myself, when I passed my bike test all I wanted was an in-line 4, bought one (a GPZ600R) & very quickly realised they were bland (in my opinion anyway). I tried a lot of engine configurations until a CX650 (don't laugh ;) ) sold me on V-twins & I then had a Buell, which I loved but which proved to be unreliable & a Yam TRX850 (which is a parallel twin with a 270 degree crank to mimic the characteristics of a V-twin) & finally a Yamaha MT-01 which I've still got 5 years on & have no intention of changing.

Hey Pete,

This is as much your show as mine, sounds like a good topic to me.

Here Goes,

My first real street motorcycle was a Triumph 250, not sure how I lost track of it. In 1973 I picked up a Kawasaki 500 H1. A multi and two stroke to boot. Pretty soon I realized that running a lot of injected oil and a hotter plug was the key to more HP. Whenever I opened it up it'd smoke the road from shoulder to shoulder, but I'd be GONE!

Gave the H1 up (because it kept over heating) in favor of a KZ900 in 1976. I still have it, haven't ridden it in years.

In 2000, OH The Horror, I bought a new Honda. It's a Valkyrie.

Despite the fact that it's more "Half a Civic" than a motorcycle, it's my every day rider.

I ride others from time to time. I carry insurance on a 1987 Yamaha Trailway 200, a 1979 KZ750 Twin, my 1981 KZ1300 A3 and my Valkyrie.

I couldn't pick one as the best. I like 'em all.
