That's a nice looking Gold Wing. If I recall, the front wheel was a sixteen inch on those 1200's. They sold an Aspencade version in the USA - correct me if I'm wrong - which was loaded with luxury features. I like that type of bike. I hope to buy a Voyager 1300 one day, to keep my KZ1300 A4 company.

Ah, the GL1200. Best 4 cylinder 'wing Honda made. The Interstate was your normal touring model, and the Aspencade had everything but the kitchen sink, although the trunk would do in a pinch. You could also get the unfaired, un-bagged Standard model, a very rare beast- only made one year, due to lack of sales. But without about 100 lbs. of excess weight up top, far and away the best handling model.

Too bad seeing her go, but like you said- it's for a good cause.

It was a great bike for little money and sad to see it go after 4yrs, I used to get laughed at by my mates for being uncool...I'll be laughing at them now :) I also had a Voyager 25yrs ago, not many bikes dwarfed the Goldwing but that did

First Mistake!!..you guys might like this one. Decided the throttle cables and carb linkages were sticky so opened the seat and took the tank off , lubed everything and it all snapped back into life..great. Put the tank back on and switched on, no lights , no power..scratched my head..checked battery, fuses, all connections ,nothing, just the sidelights stuck on..answer, ignition switch not doing anything. Strip front end to take ignition switch off, dissassemble and turn with screwdriver..looks fine..turn seat lock with key as its not in the ignition and everything comes on again perfect..diagnosis, seat lock switches the bike off. At least I've greased all the bolts so they arn't stuck next time I touch them!!!

Thanks for the chuckle. I guess it's a good thing it happened at home and not on the road.
But for the next time, remember the KISS principal. Keep It Simple. All you did was open the seat and grease the cables and now you've got no power. Got to be something simple. Just retrace your steps.

 sounds like something that would happen to me and after near stripping the bike to find the problem it would suddenly dawn on me what I have done
